Mt. Pisgah Sunset

Cripple Creek is surrounded by enough low mountains to block any real view of the setting sun. Late one day, I stationed myself at the cemetary on a hill looking to the west. Clouds were swirling. As the sun reached the horizon, the remnant storm clouds lit up on the edges for a most other-wordly view. I sat down and took notes on formation and colors and quickly sketched the scene. I returned the next morning to paint the scene.

This painting won the Sunrise/sunset award at Victor Celebrates the Arts.
